New EfM Group

A new, Education for Ministry (EfM) group is forming for Episcopalians who live in the southwest and southeast districts of the Diocese of the Rochester. This group will be a “hybrid” class—which means that most of the time it will meet online, but occasionally it will meet at a central location. The group will start meeting in September 2019.

EfM is a four-year, seminary course for lay people that explores the Bible, church history, theology, and ethics. Participants also learn how to:

  • Share their spiritual autobiographies
  • Engage in theological reflection
  • Deepen their spiritual lives
  • Examine their theological frameworks
  • Discern their ministries in the church and world.

The online seminars will take place via the Zoom virtual meeting platform. All you need to participate is a recent-model computer with a webcam, microphone, speakers, and high-speed internet access. You can also join the online seminars on your smartphone or tablet with the Zoom app.

The group will meet for 90 minutes each week between Labor Day and Memorial Day. Enrolled group members will choose a day and time for the weekly seminars. You’ll need to spend two to four hours each week in self-study to prepare for the seminars.

John Clinton Bradley and Nancy Grear will mentor the group. John is a member of St. Thomas’ Bath and a long-time EfM mentor. Nancy is a member of St. Paul’s Rochester and serves as EfM coordinator for the entire diocese.
